Trouble Updating Zoom? Try These Solutions

Updated: Aug 9

Zoom can update automatically or require manual updates based on your system settings. Using the most recent version of Zoom should fix known bugs and enable you to access the application's latest features. Here are a few solutions to get a Zoom update to the newest version.

1. Open System Settings

Start by opening the system settings inside the Zoom application. Open the application and sign in if you use the desktop client for Microsoft Windows or macOS. Click on your profile picture and select Settings under the drop-down menu. Under General, you can choose to "Automatically keep Zoom desktop clients up to date." This setting grants the application permission to download and install updates.

On iOS devices, you can update Zoom by opening the App Store, tapping your profile icon on the top right of the screen, and scrolling down. Tap the Update button next to the Zoom app. You can turn on automatic updates for applications under Settings for the App Store. If you use Android, update this application in the Google Play app under "My apps and games." Set up automatic updates by going to the Settings menu on your device, selecting Network Preferences, and turning on the option to auto-update apps.

2. Look For Zoom & Uninstall

You may need to uninstall and re-install the Zoom application to get the latest version. If you are using a Windows PC, search for Apps & Features, select Zoom from the list of applications, and click Uninstall. The official Clean Zoom uninstaller can remove the Windows desktop client and plugin for Microsoft Outlook.

On macOS, you can uninstall Zoom version 4.4.53932.0709 and higher by opening the application, clicking on zoom.us at the top of your screen, and selecting "Uninstall Zoom." If you use Zoom version 4.4.53909.0617 or below, you must move several files from "~/.zoomus/" and applications, extensions, and libraries to the trash. Uninstall Zoom in iOS in Settings under Storage. Uninstall Zoom from an Android device through the Google Play Store or in Settings under Apps.

3. Re-Install Zoom

If you use Windows, you can download the latest version of Zoom from the application website or through the Microsoft Store. On Mac, it is necessary first to enable permission to install applications downloaded from the App store and identified developers under System Preferences and Security & Privacy.

Re-install Zoom on a mobile device in the app store. If you are using an iOS device, search for Zoom in the App Store and tap on the Get button or the option to download and install the latest version of the application. You can search for Zoom in the Google Play Store to download and install the app on an Android device.

Still, Having Issues? Use Zoom Support

The Zoom Support website is the best resource for finding out how to update Zoom on your system. Search for a specific issue, such as updating to the latest version of Zoom. The support article "Updating Zoom to the Latest Version" includes more detailed instructions. Once you update to the latest version of Zoom, you may prefer to adjust the settings of your system to allow for automatic updates.

Zoom offers users a choice of slow or fast updates. The default automatic update setting is for slow updates, which occur less frequently and are more stable. Quick updates let you access the latest features but may introduce less stable releases. Whether you turn on automatic updates or prefer to update an installation manually, the latest Zoom version can give you access to bug fixes and new features.
